Summary
A specimen marble chess table, on a marble pedestal, circa 1825, some of the marbles possibly Italian, but probably worked into a table at either the Ashford Marble Works in Derbyshire, or the Ashburton Works in Devon, and installed in the Billiard Room as part of Charles Winn's (1795 - 1874) refurbishment of that room after his marriage in 1819. With an octagonal top inlaid with radiating specimens of marble around central chess squares. The pedestal balustroid and facetted and with turned collars, raised on a stepped octagonal base.
