Summary
Watercolour on paper laid down on board, Still Life of Flowers with a Dragonfly by James Hewlett (d. Isleworth 1836), signed bottom left and indistinctly dated 1810. A still life of flowers on a marble ledge. White flowers in centre, herb robert, cornflowers, pink roses, a dragonfly above, other insects and water droplets on the flowers in a carved pierced frame with acanthus loops at corners.
Provenance
Bequeathed to Charles Winn’s eldest daughter, Emma, by her former governess, Miss Hill, who went on to marry the artist, James Hewlett; purchased by the National Trust by private treaty sale from Lord St Oswald in 2010
