Summary

Autograph letter signed from Queen Victoria to Catherine Maria Vaughan, expressing condolences and a sense of loss at the death of Catherine's brother, Arthur Penrhyn Stanley, Dean of Westminster, July 19, 1881. On four sides, one folded sheet, with black borders, headed with Victoria's monogram at Osborne. Together with envelope, also bordered in black, with Queen's monogram on seal; addressed to: Mrs Vaughan Deanery Llandaff.

Provenance

Stamford collection; devised to the National Trust by Roger Grey, 10th Earl of Stamford (1896-1976).
