Summary

One of two sketchbooks with dark blue leather-effect (?) covers, black spines and black elasticated bands, each containing brightly-coloured watercolours of places and landscapes by Catherine Vaughn. This sketchbook bears a handwritten ink inscription on the interior of each of the front and back covers, respectively: Mrs Vaughan / Llandaff / 1885; Catherine Vaughan / Deanery / Llandaff / Jan 28 1886. Includes watercolours entitled 'Madeira', 'African bird' and '... House, Orotava, Teneriffe'.

Provenance

Stamford collection; devised to the National Trust by Roger Grey, 10th Earl of Stamford (1896-1976).
