Summary
Drop-in seat consisting of a wooden frame, horsehair padding, linen underside and webbing support. Tapestry seat cover tacked in place; deep red ground with floral/foliate pattern of featuring a rose, carnation, lily and other flowers in greens, reds and browns (now dirty and presumably faded). Unusual haphazard zig-zag effect around the image and a writing/wavy line effect across the front; an additional piece is stitched on at the back. The frame is stamped 'P&S' for 'Penelope & Stamford', the 9th Earl and Countess of Stamford, who had much of their belongings stamped for their move from Weybridge in Surrey to Dunham Massey in 1906. The seat cover has been cut down post tapestry stitching.
