Summary
Rectangular sketch book with maroon cover and black spine. On the inside of the front cover is a manufacturer's label for J. Barnard & Son, Manufacturing Artists' Colourmen, 19 Berners Street, London, W. and the handwritten pencil inscription, 'Elizabeth Theobald' (known as Penelope, future Countess of Stamford). The sketch book contains numerous cartoons and sketches in pencil and ink, as well as some watercolour. some of the drawings have been sketched onto scraps of paper and pinned onto the book's pages with steel pins; one such example is of a cartoon drawn on the back of a letter fragment, the letter with the embossed address, 'EAST DENE BONCHURCH', handwritten in black ink, dated 'Feb 9th 1885' and reading, 'My dearest Father- / Thank you so much / for your letter this morning- / I also heard from Aunt Mary'...
