Summary
A letter handwritten in black ink on cream notepaper headed, 'HEMPFIELD / DUNHAM TOWN / ALTRINCHAM...' (embossed in blue). The letter is dated 'Mar. 29th. 1946', is addressed to 'My dear Lady Stamford', and is signed 'Lilian W. ... [Grey?]'. The letter congratulates the Countess of Stamford on... and gives an address for a waterproof firm: E. Raffles & Co., Waterproof Manufacturers,. EMRA Works, 2. Bradford Road, Manchester 10. (highlighted between two crosses in red pencil crayon). Part of a collection of letters contained within the pages of a well-used address book belonging to Penelope, Countess of Stamford, with red, linen-effect cover with impressed trellis pattern and tooling.
