Summary
A letter handwritten in blue ink on cream notepaper water-marked 'BASILDON BOND'. The letter, addressed 'Church View, Malpas, Ches.', and dated '1.9.43', reads, 'Dear Madam / I have sent 1 doz pots / of honey to the Dean's / House, Chester, / It is 2/9 per pot, 33/- / I have another 6 pots to / send, and [crossing out] they / are 3/- per pot. 18/- / Yours truly / (Mrs) M. Edge / The bill enclosed is / what came with the / honey'. Pinned to the letter by a steel pin is a small bill on a rectangular cream card for '6 Jars Honey at 3/-per Jar 18- / From T. Mitchell / "Roselands" / Newton / MALPAS. ches.' (handwritten in black ink). The letter and card are enclosed in a cream envelope addressed to 'Lady Stamford / Dunham Massey Hall / Altrincham / Cheshire. The envelope has a blue 2 1/2d George VI stamp and is postmarked Malpas, Cheshire, 1st September 1943. 'Honey' is handwritten on the front in pencil and 'Honey / 1943' in red pencil crayon. Part of a collection of letters contained within the pages of a well-used address book belonging to Penelope, Countess of Stamford, with red, linen-effect cover with impressed trellis pattern and tooling.
