Summary
Handmade and handpainted conical paper lampshade with watercolour decoration: green base and dark blue main ground with a pattern of toadstool houses, a seated elf, a little dog and a sun in the sky; the windows of the houses, the dog's features and the sun are of handpainted tissue applied to the reverse of cut-out sections of the shade through which the light can shine. The pattern was probably drawn on in pencil and later gone over in black ink.
Provenance
Stamford collection; devised to the National Trust by Roger Grey, 10th Earl of Stamford (1896-1976).
