Summary
Sketchbook with red embossed cover, the spine greatly discoloured, the interior with a seaweed design in blue on cream/white ground, red edges to the pages. Contains mainly pen and ink but also some pencil drawings of ecclesiastical buildings, often with detailed measurements and occasional watercolour highlights. Also a pen and ink drawing of three gentlemen, two seated and one with his foot on a bench, ‘Exmouth, July 11th 1864’. Inscribed ‘William Grey / Milford / 1863’ on the inside of the first page; one of three sketch books belonging to the Rev. William Grey, father of the 9th Earl of Stamford, containing sketches mainly of ecclesiastical buildings and details.
