Summary
Portrait miniature, watercolour on ivory, George Harry Grey, 7th Earl of Stamford (1827-1883), by a follower of Sir William Charles Ross (London 1794-London 1860). c.1852; Oval. Head and shoulders portrait of a young man, turned slightly to the right, gazing at the spectator, seated, wearing a black coat, brown waistcoat, blue-bow-tie and white shirt. He has blue eyes, light brown hair and Newgate fringe, and is aged about twenty five. Brown and green scumbled background, darker to the left. The picture is possibly signed in the lower right, though the signature is indistinct.

Roger Grey, 10th Earl of Stamford, 'Notes on Dunham Massey Hall Miniatures, 25 May 1960': "The group of miniatures on the white marble table at the top of the grand staircase are as follows:- 3) Their son [Lord and Lady Grey of Groby], George Harry, 7th Earl of Stamford"; Roger Grey, 10th Earl of Stamford, 'Notes on the busts, portraits and miniatures on the grand staircase at Dunham Massey Hall, 23 July 1974': "4) On the white marble table at the top of the staircase... There are also two miniatures of the 7th Earl and his sister, Lady Margaret Grey, who married Mr. Henry Milbank"; Devised to the National Trust by the 10th Earl of Stamford (1896-1976).
