Summary
Portrait miniature, watercolour on ivory, George Harry Grey, Lord Grey of Groby (1802-1835), by Sir William Charles Ross (London 1794-London 1860). 1827. Rectangular. Half-length portrait of a young man turned to the right, gazing to the right, wearing a brown velvet shooting coat and waistcoat, pink cravat and white shirt, his right hand on the strap of a game bag. He has brown eyes, dark brown hair and whiskers and is aged about twenty five. Trees and sky background. A label on the backing card reads, '19134', and scratched on the reverse is, 'Sir W. Ross / Lord Grey of Groby / Son of Earl of Stamford / father of the Lady Margaret Milbank'. This is a pair with DUN/P/170, Lady Katherine Grey of Groby, also by Sir William Charles Ross, and was recorded in both 1960 and 1974 as being situated on the white marble table at the top of the Grand Staircase.
