Summary
Yachting cap, navy blue wool with raised nap, white cotton pique, black patent finish; lining red silk top stitched, brown leather rim, green leather; trimming, black braid 37mm with meander of oak leaves and acorns, black patent finish leather strap, two satin covered buttons 12 mm diam. Label 'John Morgan and Sons, Cowes' with royal and Prince of Wales coats of arms and a handwritten label 'Stamford'.
Provenance
Almost certainly worn by the 9th Earl of Stamford (1850-1910); the Earl visited the Isle of Wight in 1899 and 1901.
