Summary
One of two needlepoint lace lappets, French, 19th century. Fabric: cream linen, Alencon needlepoint lace, lace stitch whipped reseau, buttonhole toile, no horsehair in raised cordonnet. Design: scrolled border of flowers and leaves, scattered flowers on main ground. From the coronation robe dated 1902 and found in a box labelled 'Messrs Derry L', handwritten 'Best Lace worn on Coronation Velvet Dress for Edward VII Coronation'.
