Summary
Chapel silk damask. Loose cover to stool (DUN/F/171.a), now in storage - stool covered with replica silk weave (2015). Fabric, purple/blue/grey silk warp, blue/grey weft of heavier count, warp faced satin ground, unbalanced plain weave motifs, double white stripes in selvage; design, sunburst enclosing the sacred monogram 'I H S', palm fronds above and below surrounded by roses, repeat 947 mm; trimming, blue silk braid 20 mm; structure, hand and machine sewn, edged on four sides, opening with hooks and eyes, over undyed linen tacked to frame, over horsehair webbing and canvas.
