He was elected MP for Barnstable, St Mawes, etc. Was appointed Lord Lieutenant of Devon and Ireland. He was the son of Hugh Fortescue, 1st Earl Fortescue and married (i) Lady Susan Ryder (ii) Elizabeth Geale. From a set of portrait drawings of members of the Grillion Club, London.
