He was the son of Henry Pelham Pelham-Clinton, 4th Duke of Newcastle and Georgina Elizabeth Mund. He married Lady Susan Harriet Catherine Hamilton. He was MP for Nottinghamshire and Falkirk Burghs, and held appointments as First Commissioner of Woods and Forests, Secretary of State for War and the Colonies. From a set of portrait drawings of members of the Grillion Club, London. No.100.
