Statue of Polyhymnia (Muse of Hymns & Pantomime)
Full description
Polyhymnia is depicted as a full-length classical woman in drapery, wrapped across the body to expose the proper right shoulder. Polyhymnia stands in contrapposto. The Muse of Hymns and Pantomime is shown as though acting her speech with her arms raised and hands nearly touching. Her head is tilted slightly to the proper right and on her head she wears a coronet of jewels and sweet flowers.
Provenance
Commissioned by the National Trust and installed in Stowe Gardens in February 2020. This statue was recreated as part of the statue group Apollo and the Nine Muses. These statues were recreated as an artistic commission in the spirit of the lost original eighteenth century statue group.
