Summary
Hand tinted opaltype photograph on porcelain or milk glass, Julius Charles Drewe (1856-1931) dressed in his robes and wig as Justice of the Peace by George Glanville. Three-quarter-length portrait of a man, seated in a red plush chair, turned to the left, looking pensively to the left, robed in a black gown as Justice of the Peace; white horse-hair legal wig; his right arm on a table resting on three books, his left hand in his lap; the portrait in a velvet lined case of burgundy leatherwith a gilt clasp.
Provenance
This item forms part of the original Drewe family collection at Castle Drogo. It was transferred to the National Trust in 2008. Christopher Drewe.
