Summary
One from a set of photographs taken during Lord and Lady Shelley's balloon party at Avington Park, near Winchester, June 1908, showing the take-off of a hot air balloon, watched by a crowd of people. A house and buildings near railway are visible beyond the crowd, with woods in distance. In the basket are the Hon. Everilda Agar-Robartes, 1880-1969, Viscountess Hardinge, the Hon. C.S. Rolls (pilot) and Mr. Philip Gardner. One of two mounted black and white photographs in a single wooden frame from a collection of photographs of ballooning trip. June 1908
Provenance
Acquired during transfer of Lanhydrock to the National Trust. The Hon. Gerald Agar-Robartes, later 7th Viscount Clifden, 1883-1966, gave Lanhydrock to the National Trust in 1953 and continued to live there with his two sisters, Everilda and Violet, until his death in 1966. The Hon. Victor Agar-Robartesd, later 8th Viscount Clifden, 1887-1974, never lived at Lanhydrock after his marriage.
