One from a set of photographs taken during Lord and Lady Shelley's balloon party at Avington Park, near Winchester, June 1908, showing the Hon. Everilda Agar-Robartes,1880-1969, far right, with Viscountess Hardinge, Mr. Philip Gardner behind and the Hon. C.S. Rolls (pilot) in the basket of a hot air balloon ready for take-off, surrounded by a group of men and a boy. One of two mounted black and white photographs from a collection of photographs of the ballooning trip, in a single wooden frame. LAN.D.413.
Provenance
Acquired during transfer of Lanhydrock to the National Trust. The Hon. Gerald Agar-Robartes, later 7th Viscount Clifden, 1883-1966, gave Lanhydrock to the National Trust in 1953 and continued to live there with his two sisters, Everilda and Violet, until his death in 1966. The Hon. Victor Agar-Robartesd, later 8th Viscount Clifden, 1887-1974, never lived at Lanhydrock after his marriage.
