Summary
A black and white photograph of Mary Dickinson, later Viscountess Clifden, 1853-1921, reading to young child, the Hon. Victor Agar-Robartes, later 8th Viscount Clifden, 1887-1974. Mary Dickinson is wearing a dark, high-necked and long sleeved dress with brooch at throat and holds the book in her right hand; Victor wears a high necked white dress with scalloped hem, white socks and black button shoes and is holding a toy in his right hand. c.1890 See also LAN.D.167 (885131) and LAN.D.482 (882219.4) Red leather folding case with four panels. Each window has gilt decoration. There are three cabinet cards with albumen prints in the first, second and fourth windows. 5019 is by E. Provenance
A gift of the Hon. Gerald Agar-Robartes, 7th Viscount Clifden, who gave Lanhydrock to the National Trust and continued to live there with his two sisters, Everilda and Violet, until his death in 1966.
