Summary
Professional photograph of two sailing vessels, men-o-war?, moored in a river estuary. The ship on the left has three masts and bowsprit, the one on the right is without masts and has canvas awnings on the top deck, possibly part of the Royal Naval College at Dartmouth. Behind are trees and some buildings, hills visible in distance. The tops of shrubs visible in foreground. Contained in a tan coloured leather photograph album, elaborately tooled in black with brass clasp and containing twenty five gilt edged pages with eighty photographs, some of the Dickinson family. June 1870
Provenance
A gift from the Hon. Gerald Agar Robartes, 7th Viscount Clifden, 1883-1966, who gave Lanhydrock to the National Trust in 1953 and continued to live there with his sisters, Everilda and Violet, until his death in 1966. The album is thought to have belonged to Mary Dickinson, later Viscountess Clifden, containing family photographs.
