Summary
A studio photograph of a portly man with white hair and beard, see also 889242.16, standing beside a woman sitting in a chair, her right forearm resting on a table with cloth and a foot, not visible, on a footstool. She is wearing a dress with two rows of pleated overlay around the skirt and also around cuffs, and a white cap with dark ribbons and lappets. She has a long chain around her neck for pinz nez and appears to be holding a piece of pale ribbon in her hands. He stands on the right of the photograph with his right arm on the back of her chair, and wears a cut away coat over waistcoat and trousers, white shirt and bow tie. A studio window is visible on the right, as is a full length curtain draped on the floor. Contained in a tan coloured leather photograph album, elaborately tooled in black with brass clasp and containing twenty five gilt edged pages with eighty photographs, some of the Dickinson family. c. 1870
Provenance
A gift from the Hon. Gerald Agar Robartes, 7th Viscount Clifden, 1883-1966, who gave Lanhydrock to the National Trust in 1953 and continued to live there with his sisters, Everilda and Violet, until his death in 1966. The album is thought to have belonged to Mary Dickinson, later Viscountess Clifden, containing family photographs.
