Summary
A studio photograph of a woman, (is this Caroline Dickinson mother of Mary Dickinson, or her mother?), standing with her left hand resting on the back of a carved chair with upholstered seat. She is wearing a dark dress with full skirt, wide sleeves, dark buttons down the front of the bodice and white collar and cuffs. She wears a brooch at the throat and a dark cap is just visible on the back of her head. Behind her to the left of the photograph is a backdrop of a glazed door opening out onto a tiled area with vase and steps, parkland visible in the distance. Plain walls behind with patterned carpet on the floor.. Contained in a tan coloured leather photograph album, elaborately tooled in black with brass clasp and containing twenty five gilt edged pages with eighty photographs, some of the Dickinson family. c.1870
Provenance
A gift from the Hon. Gerald Agar Robartes, 7th Viscount Clifden, 1883-1966, who gave Lanhydrock to the National Trust in 1953 and continued to live there with his sisters, Everilda and Violet, until his death in 1966. The album is thought to have belonged to Mary Dickinson, later Viscountess Clifden, containing family photographs.
