Summary
A studio portrait, three-quarter length, of Mary Dickinson, later Viscountess Clifden of Gowran (1853-1921), sitting on a chair, her hands together in her lap, a letter held in her left hand, her right elbow resting on a desk. She wears a plain dark dress with wide braid around neck, down front of dress and around cuffs. She wears a brooch on ribbon around her neck and a locket is pinned to the neckline of her dress. Contained in a faded black leather bound album, embossed in diamond pattern with gold tooling and with brass clasp.
Provenance
A gift from the Hon. Gerald Agar Robartes, 7th Viscount Clifden, 1883-1966, who gave Lanhydrock to the National Trust in 1953 and continued to live there with his sisters, Everilda and Violet, until his death in 1966. The album is thought to have belonged to Mary Dickinson, later Viscountess Clifden, containing family photographs.
