Summary
A studio portrait of three children, one boy and two girls sitting and standing around a table with large goldfish bowl. The eldest girl stands behind the table with both hands on the table. She has her hair tied back and has a fringe and is wearing a belted dress with buttons down front of bodice and a high neck with frill, and a locket/brooch on a dark ribbon. The boy sits on a chair on the right holding a model yacht and is wearing a dark sailor suit with shorts, dark stockings and ankle boots, his feet resting on an upholstered stool. The younger girl is kneeling on a padded stool with both hands on the table, and she wears a white dress with dark sash, a bow in her long dark hair. The page is illustrated with a river flowing between palm trees and equatorial vegetation. Contained in a faded black leather bound album, embossed in diamond pattern with gold tooling and with brass clasp.
Provenance
A gift from the Hon. Gerald Agar Robartes, 7th Viscount Clifden, 1883-1966, who gave Lanhydrock to the National Trust in 1953 and continued to live there with his sisters, Everilda and Violet, until his death in 1966. The album is thought to have belonged to Mary Dickinson, later Viscountess Clifden, containing family photographs.
