Summary
A studio portrait of a young child sitting on a fringed chair holding a small dog, a dachsund. The child is wearing a short dark dress with elbow length sleeves trimmed with lace which is also around neck and on bodice, white socks and ankle boots. The page is illustrated with a parrot sitting on branch with trees behind and grass below, a butterfly with outstretched wings at the top of the page. Contained in a faded black leather bound album, embossed in diamond pattern with gold tooling and with brass clasp.
Provenance
A gift from the Hon. Gerald Agar Robartes, 7th Viscount Clifden, 1883-1966, who gave Lanhydrock to the National Trust in 1953 and continued to live there with his sisters, Everilda and Violet, until his death in 1966. The album is thought to have belonged to Mary Dickinson, later Viscountess Clifden, containing family photographs.
