Summary
A photograph of an old woman sitting in a hooped back chair in a rural setting, a young boy standing beside her with his right arm resting on her left shoulder. She is wearing a dark bonnet, dark dress with deep tuck around hem, a dark shawl around her shoulders and she holds an open book in her lap. The boy wears a collarless jacket buttoned at neck, over jerkin and breeches, a dark round hat in his left hand. Contained in a faded black leather bound album, embossed in diamond pattern with gold tooling and with brass clasp.
Provenance
A gift from the Hon. Gerald Agar Robartes, 7th Viscount Clifden, 1883-1966, who gave Lanhydrock to the National Trust in 1953 and continued to live there with his sisters, Everilda and Violet, until his death in 1966. The album is thought to have belonged to Mary Dickinson, later Viscountess Clifden, containing family photographs.
