Summary
An oval studio portrait, head and shoulders, of a young woman, Fanny Julia Pole Carew (d.1939): 1881, wearing dark lace evening dress with low neck-line and unlined sleeves. She has a small necklace around her neck and has her hair tied back softly with plait around her head and curled fringe. This person very similar to girl in 890099.22. Contained in a faded black leather bound album, embossed in diamond pattern with gold tooling and with brass clasp.
Provenance
A gift from the Hon. Gerald Agar Robartes, 7th Viscount Clifden, 1883-1966, who gave Lanhydrock to the National Trust in 1953 and continued to live there with his sisters, Everilda and Violet, until his death in 1966. The album is thought to have belonged to Mary Dickinson, later Viscountess Clifden, containing family photographs.
