Summary
A studio portrait of a young fair haired woman/actress sitting on a rustic chair dressed in a shepherdess costume with dark ribbon around her neck. Rustic backdrop and floor on wooden boards, possibly the stage. Dated March 1878. The page is illustrated with a river flowing between palm trees and equatorial vegetation. Contained in a faded black leather bound album, embossed in diamond pattern with gold tooling and with brass clasp.
Provenance
A gift from the Hon. Gerald Agar Robartes, 7th Viscount Clifden, 1883-1966, who gave Lanhydrock to the National Trust in 1953 and continued to live there with his sisters, Everilda and Violet, until his death in 1966. The album is thought to have belonged to Mary Dickinson, later Viscountess Clifden, containing family photographs.
