Summary
Black leather covered photograph album, 889930.26, with tooled diamond pattern, gold border and initialled A.V.A-R., blue/green marbelling on inner pages, and containing twenty five photographs, 889930.1 to 889930.25, relating to the Hon. Victor Agar-Robartes, 1887-1974 and his time at Brasenose College, Oxford University. On the first page is a hand-painted coat of arms for Brasenose College, and on the last page of the album are two hand written lists of club members in black and gold. The Plum Club members are Lord Maidstone, Hon. D. Finch-Hatton, Hon. C.T. Mills, Hon. C. Herbert, E. R. Hanbury, R.V. Gibbs, Hon. A.A. Goschen, R.A. Heath, W. Rawle, A.F. Chinnery, P. Pearson-Gregory, Hon. A.V. Agar-Robartes, C.N. Horlick and A.C. Dawnay. The members of the Phoenix Common Room are R.S. Wix, M.H. Ravenhill, D. Ingram, J.H. Knox, P.A. Fenwick-Clennel, P. Pearson-Gregory, A.F. Chinnery, R.A. Heath, C. Hunter, Hon. A.V. Agar-Robartes. The album is very damaged with back and front boards separated from spine and tears on lining paper.
Provenance
This photograph album relates to the time the Hon. Victor Agar-Robartes,1887-1974, later 8th Viscount Clifden, spent at Brasenose College, Oxford University, c.1906-1909, and was given either by him or by his elder brother, the Hon. Gerald Agar-Robartes, 1883-1964, later 7th Viscount Clifden, who gave Lanhydrock to the National Trust in 1953.
