Summary
Studio photograph, three-quarter length, of a clergyman with toddler, Robert John Eden, 3rd Baron Auckland (1799-1879) Bishop of Bath and Wells, and his grand daughter, Violet. He has whispy sideburns and is wearing a long dark coat, dark trousers, buttoned gaiters and a white dog collar. Both hands support the child who is wearing a pale dress with dark sash and shoulder ribbons and is sitting on a covered table next to him. c.1860 Contained in brown leather album with single brass clasp containing twenty gold edged pages, forty sides, with slip-in sections for cabinet size photos.
Provenance
A gift from the Hon. Gerald Agar-Robartes, 7th Viscount Clifden, who gave Lanhydrock to the National Trust in 1953. This album and photographs belonged to the Dickinson family; Mary Dickinson, 1853-1921, marrying the Hon. Thomas Charles Agar-Robartes, later 6th Viscount Clifden, 1844-1921.
