Summary
Studio photograph, full length, of a young man, William Dickinson, b.1839, eldest brother of Mary Dickinson, later Viscountess Clifden, 1853-1921, wearing long dark jacket, dark trousers and waistcoat. He stands with his left hand on his hip and his right hand holding a pair of gloves and resting on top of a carved cupboard with arched opening. Statuette of horse on top of cupboard. Draped curtain and and patterned wallpaper behind him. Chair on right of photo with cloak and top hat on top of seat, a patterned carpet on floor. Seee also 890104.6. Contained in small brown leather album with two ornate brass clasps and a small brass shield on front with three engraved initials, SCD. c.1861 (possibly Sophia Dickinson)
Provenance
A gift from the Hon. Gerald Agar-Robartes, 7th Viscount Clifden, who gave Lanhydrock to the National Trust in 1953. This album and photographs belonged to the Dickinson family; Mary Dickinson, 1853-1921, marrying the Hon. Thomas Charles Agar-Robartes, later 6th Viscount Clifden, 1844-1921.
