Summary
Photograph - Studio portrait, of a man, the Hon. Thomas Charles Agar-Robartes, later 6th Viscount Clifden, 1844-1930, and a young woman, Mary Dickinson, later Viscountess Clifden, 1853-1921. Both are standing; the man on the left, rests his left elbow and right arm on the top of a carved cupboard and the young woman looks at a piece of paper held in her left hand. He has a full beard and is wearing a dark jacket; she is wearing a dark dress with bows and ruched sleeves. Plain background with draped curtain and a chair on left. Possibly taken at the time of their engagement in 1877. See also LAN.PH.448 and LAN.PH.1490.10. Contained in a dark green leather photograph album with embossed design on front and back, containing twenty four pages, forty eight sides, with slip-in sections and gold printed borders.
Provenance
This album was a gift from the Hon. Gerald Agar-Robartes, 7th Viscount Clifden, who gave Lanhydrock to the National Trust in 1953.
