Summary
A photograph of four young Agar-Robartes children with their governess, possibly in the nursery at Lanhydrock. The Hon. Constance Agar-Robartes, 1890-1936, stands behind and seated in front are the Hon. Violet Agar-Robartes, 1888-1965, seated on stool, next to Mlle. Venezia Ortica, governess, with the Hon. Alexander Agar-Robartes, 1895-1930, (blurred) standing on her knee, and the Hon. Victor Agar-Robartes, later 8th Viscount Clifden, 1887-1974, stitting on a wooden stool in front of a piano. Both Violet and Constance wear similar frilled dresses with high necks and long sleeves, and Victor wears a three-piece suit with breeches and woollen socks. Alexander is wearing a tunic/dress with darker velvet trimming and a frilled collar. There are pictures on the walls and a table with drawer and a piano against the wall. Contained in an olive green Kodak photograph album containing family photographs, c.1898
Provenance
A gift from the Hon. Gerald Agar-Robartes, 7th Viscount Clifden, 1883-1966, who gave the house to the National Trust in 1953 and continued to live there until his death.
