Khedda Operations
Summary
A collection of forty-three photographs, NT 886556.1 to 886556.43, contained in a grey photograph album, NT 886556.44, containing photographs of the Khedda, a stockade trap for the capture of elephants, in the Kakanakote forest, Mysuru (Mysore), Karnataka, India. The frontispiece printed 'KHEDDA OPERATIONS/IN THE KAKANKOTA FORESTS OF MYSORE/ as witnessed by/ HIS EXCELLENCY LORD CHELMSFORD/ Viceroy & Governor-General of India./ December 1919.'
Provenance
A gift from the Hon. Gerald Agar -Robartes, later 7th Viscount Clifden, 1885-1966, who gave Lanhydrock to the National Trust in 1953 and continued to live there with his sisters, Everilda and Violet, until his death in 1966. His younger brother, Lt. the Hon. Alexander Agar-Robartes, was appointed A.D.C. to the Viceroy of India, Lord Chelmsford, in 1919. Presumably this album belonged to him.
