Summary
Dog cart built by Mulliner c.1900 with 16-spoke, iron-tyred Warner wheels on Collinges axles. Shaped shafts are mounted on fulcrum plates in front and cross spring behind. A hand brake is fitted. The driving seat is adjusted by a seat screw, but the groom's seat is missing.
Provenance
A gift of Gerald, 7th Viscount Clifden, who gave the house to the National Trust in 1953 and continued to live there until his death in 1966. This dog cart belonged to the Hon. Violet Agar-Robartes who used it to drive about the estate and neighbourhood. She never married and lived at Lanhydrock with her brother, Gerald, and sister, Everilda, until her death in 1965. Sent up to Eric Homewood, Arlington, Devon in 1974 who completely restored the vehicle and returned it to Lanhydrock September 1975.
