Summary
Silk satin Oriental-style Art Nouveau wall hanging with two cranes either side of a flowering plant, standing on water lilies on a beige ground. The embroidery is in coloured silks and wool on a beige cotton sateen fabric. c.1900.
Provenance
Worked in Walthamstow, Essex, c.1900 by Mrs. Wise (nee Katie Treleaven) as a piano back and given to the National Trust in October 1974 by her daughters Enid and Marjorie. Both Mrs. Wise and her husband, a doctor, were born in Launceston, Cornwall.
