Summary
Plaster sculpture, Medea, showing a female bust of a woman looking right, by Thomas Thornycroft (1815-1885), who exhibited 'Head in marble of Medea' at the Royal Academy 1844. This bust is signed and dated 1844 and inscribed ΜΗΔΗΑ. A marble of the Medea, signed and dated 1846, is in the Royal Collection at Osborne House. His wife, Mary(1809-1895), and his son, Sir William Hamo Thornycroft, RA, (1850-1925), were also sculptors.
