Summary
An iron chest or strong-box, German, circa 1600. Sometimes called an Armada chest, of typical form and decorated in polychrome with birds, flowers and foliage, the lid fitted with elaborate locking mechanism, the sides with carrying handles, the front with two further loops and hasps for padlocks.
