Summary
The washstand from a set of bamboo and lacquer bedroom furniture, English, circa 1920. The splash-back with lozenge design in alternating coloured tiles below a pediment matching the wardrobe and dressing table, with black marble surface above a frieze drawer and open compartment flanked by a lacquer panel cupboard door. The set comprising a wardrobe, a pair of chairs, two occasional tables, a dressing table with swing mirror, a washstand with tiled back and a fire screen, the lacquer panels apparently Japanese and decorated with flowers and foliage.
