Summary
An upholstered and simulated rosewood high-back open armchair, English, circa 1850. With shepherd's crook arms, upholstered in needlework with armorial and the Latin motto of the Clifden family 'Quae Supra Spectamur Agendo' (which translates as 'Above all else, Let us be viewed by our actions'), on foliate-clasped tapering legs with castors.
Provenance
Acquired on transfer of the house to the National Trust in 1953.
