A beech smoker's bow armchair, High Wycombe, circa 1870. The horseshoe-shaped armbow with a gallery of turned spindles and under-arm supports, the elm seat with baluster-turned legs and cross stretchers, stamped with initials HG to back of seat.

A very similar chair was advertised in the catalogue of Glenister and Gibbons of High Wycombe (fl. 1865 - 1879) and illustrated in Bernard Cotton 'The English Regional chair', page 97, Fig.TV233, courtesy of High Wycombe Chair Museum.
