Summary
Print, engraving, John Robartes, 1st Earl of Radnor (1606-1685) after Samuel Cooper (London 1608 – London 1672) Framed engraving of the head and shoulders of John Lord Robartes afterwards Earl of Radnor wearing armour, his head bare, taken from a miniature attributed to Samuel Cooper. Mounted as oval in gilt frame, the glass missing. Portrait with wavy, shoulder-length hair, half-length to left, glancing towards the viewer, wearing armour and cravat; in an oval, within rectangular border; illustration to Park's edition of Walpole's 'A Catalogue of the Royal and Noble Authors of England' (London: 1806);
Provenance
Two prints were acquired from the National Portrait Gallery by St. John Gore for Lanhydrock in May 1974. The miniature attributed to Samuel Cooper was on loan to the Gallery for an exhibition at that time (No.108).
