Watercolour on paper, Mullion Cove, Cornwall by William Casley (fl.1891-1912). Waves breaking on a sandy beach with large rocks to the right of picture and coastline in distance. . Signed W. Casley. On the ornate gilt frame is painted label with the inscription Presented to/ Rt. Hon. Lord and Lady Robartes/by Inhabitants of Mullion/6.12.1892.
Provenance
Acquired on transfer of the house to the National Trust. This picture was presented to Lord and Lady Robartes at a ceremony in Mullion on the completion of the west pier in December 1892. Lord Robartes had paid for the construction of the pier which would help the local farmers, many of whom were his tenants .
