Summary
Framed and mounted black and white photograph of six members of the Beefsteak Club, May 1914, with three standing and three seated,in front of an ivy clad wall with tile roof and posts. The Hon. Cecil Agar-Robartes, 1892-1939, is sitting in a carved arm chair behind a table with a silver cup in the shape of a bull's head. Two rugs are on the ground. Back row, left to right, F.Fielding Reid. R.E.deTrafford. Lord Hartington. Front row, seated, K.S.M.Gladstone. Hon.C.E.Agar-Robartes. G.K.Dunning. Photograph numbered LAN.PH.5216 as all photographs have individual PH numbers. Albumen print mounted on an off-white mount board. The mount board has a plate mark and a printed beige surround around the photograph. There are painted captions on the mount. "Stearn and Sons" "Cambridge" is printed in the lower border. There is some pencil writing on the reverse of the mount (as caption). The frame is oak with a gilt slip and woodern backboard. There is a paper label "From Stearn and Sons, Artists and Photographers, 72 Bridge Street, Cambridge". "Hon. C.E. Agar Robartes" is written in iron gall ink on the label.
Provenance
A gift from the Hon. Gerald Agar-Robartes, later 7th Viscount Clifden, 1883-1966, who gave Lanhydrock to the National Trust in 1953 and continued to live there with his sisters, Everilda and Violet, until his death in 1966.
