Summary
Gouache on paper, a bacchante with thyrsus subduing a charging centaur, one of ten drawings of classical figures, after frescoes at the Villa of Cicero, attributed to or manner of Michelangelo Maestri (1741 - Rome 1812), late 18th - early 19th century. Against a black background and within a gilt moulded frame.
Provenance
Possibly one of the ten 'pompein' pictures referred to as in the Pink Dressing Room in the 1894 inventory but at Saltram by 1962 and given to NT by Montagu Brownlow Parker (1878-1962),5th Earl of Morley as part of the endowment.
