Summary
A marble-topped mahogany console table, English, circa 1810. Possibly adapted - with the addition of a shelf - into an open bookcases. Topped by a white-veined grey marble top above a frieze applied with decorative pierced brass mounts of anthemion and palmettes. Raised on a paneled rear and a pair of supporting front scrolls, inlaid with ebony harebells or fleur-de-lys and applied with brass stars. Also with line-carved decoration. Of two shelves, the central shelf possibly later. All raised on four lion's paw feet. The back paneled.
Provenance
Date and method of acquisition not recorded but at Saltram by 1951 and accepted in part payment of death duties by HM Treasury from the executors of Edmund Robert Parker (1877 - 1951), 4th Earl of Morley and transferred to the National Trust in 1957.
