Summary
Vase, blown colourless glass with a red glass overlay, with cut circular sections. Probably made in Czech Republic, about 1850-70.
Full description
In the mid 19th century the techniques of 'casing' a thick layer of coloured glass onto clear glass were developed in Bohmemia (Czech Republic). These glassmaking techniques enabled the maker of this vase to cut through the top, coloured, layer, creating contrasting patterns geometric patterns. It is desginer for displaying cut-flowers, the clear glass sections revealing the stems, and was probably used in the reception rooms or bedrooms at Saltram House.
